The School for Deacons

Formation | Service | Compassion

An institution of the diocese, the School for Deacons forms deacons through affordable, innovative programs that enable deacons to bring the needs, hopes, and concerns of the world to the Church and to show the Church how to serve the world. The school prepares students not only with theological knowledge but with practical skills for ministry, community engagement, and advocacy. Deacons work with people in need, with those on the margins, for the voiceless and the needy.

Created following the liturgical renewal movement which culminated in the 1979 Book of Common Prayer, the School for Deacons is committed to fostering growth in spiritual, pastoral, and social ministry, empowering each student to serve in transformative ways. Students in the school will journey through a program that integrates academic rigor with hands-on ministry experience. Through prayer, study, and reflection, candidates develop the skills necessary to lead with wisdom, compassion, and vision.
