Development, Planned Giving, & Stewardship

Stewarding our Time, Talent, and Treasure is how we enable ministry, serve our neighbors, and grow our churches. The Episcopal Church in the Bay Area Development Working Group collaborates with our congregations, institutions, and lay and clergy leaders to raise congregational annual funds, grow legacy societies, plan and implement capital campaigns, and support diocesan ministry.

Funding outreach, growing mission, cultivating generous donors

Stewardship strategy and consulting

Good stewardship practices are at the heart of every congregation and institution. The Development Working Group can help your congregation learn best practices for annual campaigns and develop resources for year-round stewardship formation. When we can make the connection between our gratitude and our generosity we have found the intersection of impact in our congregations. Learn more about our webinars, teaching and preaching, and our direct consultations, and together we will deepen our theology of abundance.

Capital Campaigns

Church growth and development experts suggest that a healthy congregation should undergo a capital campaign every seven to ten years. While that may seem often to many, there is wisdom in this idea. Capital campaigns have many inward and outward benefits to a congregation.

Learn more about how we can help you plan, implement, and execute a successful capital campaign to address issues in your building and grounds, grow or expand endowments, and implement visionary programs for ministry in your congregation.

Disaster Relief Fundraising

Helping those who have been ravaged by any number of disasters is important and dear to the hearts of those of us here in the Episcopal Diocese of California. It is a way to care for people the Lord has placed on this world with us and indeed it is much needed!

Planned Giving

Legacy giving is an integral part of Christian stewardship. What we do with all that God has placed into our hands includes how we arrange for its distribution when we face our final transition.

Learn more about how the Development Working Group can help you to set up or grow your legacy society or planned giving program, teach and preach about legacy giving, and set up informational coffee-hours or workshops in your congregation.

Expanding Horizons

From 2015 to 2019, more than twenty congregations, nearly a thousand individual donors, and three diocesan institutions came together to raise more than $20,000,000 to benefit congregations, diocesan programs, and diocesan institutions. Learn more about this historic effort.

Support for College Chaplaincies

The Diocesan budget, visionary congregations, and generous donors support the Episcopal presence on three Bay Area college campuses.

  • Canterbury at the University of California, Berkeley
  • The Stanford Chaplaincy at Stanford University
  • EcHouse at San Francisco State University

Learn how you can support these ministries with your donations.

Diocesan Non-Profits

  • The Episcopal Diocese of California is home to 80 congregations and specialized missions?
  • DioCal has many officially chartered non-profits covering the Bay Area in a range of services?
