Nightwatch 2014

Posted on April 29, 2014

This past weekend saw Nightwatch return to Grace Cathedral — the annual overnight event for diocesan youth and friends in 6th to 8th grades. “Grow up in Every Way,” the theme of the night, was explored through art, reflection, and creative worship — decorating and planting tiny seed pots; writing prayers during a candlelight compline; reading and reflecting on the Parable of the Sower; and enjoying an outdoor Eucharist with energetic music, dancing, and of course blessing water to water the newly planted pots. And of course, as always the evening included exuberant fun with flashlights, glowsticks, music, and games.

Nightwatch welcomed 35 youth from Grace Cathedral; St. James, San Francisco; St. James, Oakland; Transfiguration, San Mateo; St. John’s, Ross; Christ Church, Alameda; Grace Church, Martinez; St. Gregory’s, San Francisco; St. Paul’s, Burlingame; St. Francis, Novato; Epiphany, San Carlos; St. Bartholomew, Livermore; All Souls, Berkeley; and St. Matthew’s, San Mateo. Adult volunteers and program staff made the evening one to remember. Looking forward to more fun, after the summer’s camps at St. Dorothy’s Rest, The Bishop’s Ranch, and Camp St. Francis, some dates for future excitement include Respite Retreat, November 7–9, at St. Dorothy’s Rest, for 6th grade through high school, and Happening, February 6–8, 2015, at St. John’s, Ross, for high school students. As always, please contact Jennifer Snow, jennifers@diocal.org, with any questions about youth programming and participation in future events.
