Advent Resources
For Advent 2011, the Diocese of California is pleased to offer a variety of easy to use, free downloadable resources to enhance your seasonal programming:
- "What do you EXPECT" is a three-session small group Bible study, designed to introduce small-group ministry practices, and also lay the foundation for using LifeCycles and related small group curricula
- For those who have already completed this study and who may be seeking to deepen their small-group ministry experience, or for those planning to begin the comprehensive four-year LifeCycles Ministry Development program, you'll find the first six-session study, "Encountering Our Story."
- "Healing Racism & Celebrating All God's People" meets the requirements for anti-racism training in the Episcopal Church, offered in a flexible small group format designed to be facilitated by anyone who has previously completed anti-racism training.
Facilitator training recommended for all.

What Do You Expect?
An Advent Bible Study for the Diocese of California
For clergy, congregational leaders, area ministry teams, commission on ministry members, and their friends, “What Do You Expect?” brings together three simple Bible study practices, designed to lay the groundwork for small group ministry in the Diocese of California. You are invited to gather friends, parishioners or others in your area for three small-group meetings this Advent. At each meeting your group will explore ancient Biblical stories in new ways by discussing scripture, telling stories, and praying together.

This six-session small group study of scripture and tradition is the first unit of flexible 4+ year program for comprehensive ministry development (including scripture, theology, prayer practice and leadership skills) which was developed in collaboration with several "Total Ministry" dioceses and the Episcopal Divinity School, and updated for Diocese of California congregations and leadership teams. Its easily facilitated by anyone with small group skills.

Healing Racism & Celebrating All God’s People
Clergy are required, and Episcopal lay leaders encouraged, to engage in anti-racism training. "Healing Racism" is a flexible five-session small groups study which incorporates the training elements required by the Episcopal Church. Locally adapted by DioCal clergy Susan Champion and Merry Chan, it can be facilitated by anyone who has previously completed anti-racism training, and is ideal for Advent or Lenten study, or for use among colleague groups and vestries.
